STEP AWAY FROM THE BOTOX – IT IS NOT WORKING
I am bemused by Botox and the much discussed benefits of this and the growing array of so called anti-ageing treatments. I was out for lunch today and sat next to a group of attractive, mature ladies, all of them in their sixties but something simply did not add up about their appearance. They were all beautiful women but their faces did not match the rest of them! They were clearly aged between 60-70 and this was no mystery – it showed in their neck and décolletage, hands, posture, voice, conversation etc but their faces were pumped up and smooth and the whole look was bizarre.
The Botox, fillers and collagen far from making them look younger just made them look like foolish women insecure about their age. So why are they doing this and who is it for? If it is in the hope that people will look at us and say ‘wow you only look 50’, then the whole affair is failing miserably. If it is for personal confidence then I can suggest several better options that cost less, are less invasive and actually work!
And can someone please tell me why women in their early twenties are now subscribing to this beauty regime – anti-ageing at 24?? Are we mad? This year’s winner of BBC’s Apprentice is a young, pretty woman in her early twenties so pumped up with fillers and Botox her skin has the texture of a plastic Barbie doll and her lips are so big she has trouble smiling. Her business idea is to open a chain of, yes, you guessed it – Botox clinics, but it is OK cos she is a doctor! Surely this must be the end of The Apprentice, a show that started off with some credibility and is now simply car crash, entertainment driven, reality TV? It is no better than Geordie Shore or The Valleys.
But I digress, back to Botox….
I am mystified by this trend. As a well promoted anti-ageing procedure it simply does NOT work. I have not seen one women look better for any of these procedures yet. They do not look younger they just look wrong. And what is the point in pumping your face full of Botox if the rest of your persona cannot keep up? Ladies, you may be kidding yourself that this poison takes years off you but no-one else is buying it!
What is wrong with growing old? I know for sure the ladies I sat next to at lunch today would have looked far more graceful, elegant and attractive if they were simply comfortable in their own skin. Youthful radiance, confidence and sexy shines from within, it has little to do with age, skin texture or a porn star pout.
Please make it stop, please!
