Well now, it is a rare occasion for me to smile as I flick through The Daily Mail, I am generally ranting in disbelief but this week I was moved by a few articles about enduring love, yes folks I said Love!
Headline one – ‘Still Sweethearts After 65 Years’ This was a delightful article about how The Queen and Prince Philip are still gaga about each other. He surprises her with romantic gifts. She offers him tips on what to google and moans about his driving but they are inseparable and their affection for each other is clear to see.
Headline two – ‘Widower’s 10,600 mile hitchhike tribute’ This was the story of an 85 year old man who after losing his wife of 55 years not only decided to honour her memory by travelling to their favourite city, Cape Town to sprinkle her ashes over her favourite place, Table Mountain, but he decided to hitchhike all the way and raise money for the Hospice where his wife spent her final days. I am pretty sure she did not expect him to hitchhike to scatter her ashes but the sentiment is pure love and no doubt the journey helped him manage his grief.
Both these stories warmed my heart and confirm for me that even in a world of grief, strife, financial and economic stress and social deprivation love still conquers all. So…
Tell someone you love them today. It matters. When everything else seems to be in turmoil, love prevails, love survives, love flourishes.
Normal ranting will resume soon!
